Yerba mate is a native herb Ilex paraguariensis, originally found deep in the South American rainforest from which tea is made in South American Countries such Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Peru etc.

 

Yerba mate contains xanthine, caffeoyl derivatives, saponins, polyphenols and it is claimed to also contain vitamin C, thiamine, riboflavin, vitamin B6, potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, manganese, and iron.

 

Traditionally, in South America Yerba mate has been known as a natural remedy for Fatigue, Depression, Weight management and for chronic headaches.

Yerba Mate releases caffeine slowly and produces a sustained energy boost minimising the withdrawal effects of caffeine. It produces alertness and wakefulness and is claimed traditionally to increase short-term memory, improve mood, improve reaction times, digestion and mental energy.

Traditionally, yerba mate was shared in a calabash gourd  and consumed through a straw called Bombilla. Yerba Mate is a tradition and a culturally accepted habit in South America which is about sharing with others.
